Travel Style : Wanderer
Since I recently traveled, I was thinking about traveling styles.
The usual traveling style that people talk about is usually tourist or traveler. So you usually fall in between those two categories.
But I find myself not falling in either of these categories. So I decided to come up with my own. I'll call it Wanderer.
I have to admit that my travel style is influenced heavily by my family. I grew up in a family that usually only went to the beach for holidays.
So the point of every holiday, was to relax and refocus. So in the beach, we would usually just sit by the sea all day and enjoy ourselves.
And this is why for me, traveling must never be stressful. It must be relaxing. I don't like to be rushed from one place to another. I don't like waking up early mornings during a vacation.
The reason why I say I fall in neither traveler or tourist is because for tourist, they would like to go to every spot but I wouldn't do that. I would go to some and not some. Whereas travelers would like to blend in. However, I'm too aware that I'm foreign to even try to blend in.
In fact, what I like to do, can be described as wandering. I just want to walk the streets. See where I end up. Maybe sit in a cafe and just people watch all day. Yup. I'm completely okay with that.
Thus, funnily enough, my highlight of my Hanoi trip this year was the cruise.
I like looking out the window, seeing the vast ocean. It really did make me feel like an explorer.
Seeing the vast blue ocean, all I could think of was, what lies further away? Although technically, I know what lies further away.
I enjoyed sitting on bed, feeling the ship sway or gently move forward. True, I had a little motion sickness but it didn't take away from it.
I enjoyed sitting at the deck at night, with my book in hand and just reading before I fall asleep.
There's a certain peace that comes with wandering. Because at that point in time, it doesn't matter who you are, where you are going or what you're doing. You're just letting yourself be as you watch the world go by. It's both peaceful and relaxing.
And honestly, that's what a holiday should always be.
