Mental Health
Let's talk about mental health.
Alot of people have been in a lockdown and it must affect some of us.
Personally, I have always been someone who gets anxious pretty easily.
Hence, even before the lockdown, I downloaded some apps to help with my mental health.
Initially, I downloaded youper.
I even paid for the premium one because the free version was so limiting.
You can go the Youper website here to download it. This app is available in both ios and android.
Yes, be aware that the free version is very limiting.
How is it?
I been using it for a while. Some days it's helpful. Other days it isn't. I generally just use it as a place to vent my frustration sometimes because it has the AI chat. However, sometimes it doesn't help because as AI chats go, they aren't very smart.
But checking in each day, to rate how I feel has helped me realise that emotions are a very fickle thing.
When I was younger, I value emotions very highly. Maybe because I was also a very emotional person and I felt it so deep. But now older, I find it somewhat, interesting that my emotions can change at a drop of a hat.
Hence, it made me just accept that emotion but pass no judgement on it or even have any emphasis on it.
When I was younger, feeling upset only made me more upset because I didn't want to be upset. But now, I'd just go, yea, I guess I'm upset and then just go about my day.
I guess it made me realise that although emotions are important, it's not a good idea to use your emotions completely as a basis of your wellbeing. Just because you're upset right now doesn't mean your life is bad. Sometimes it could just be this very moment that's not too good. But everything else is good. So yea.
However, I haven't tried the mindfulness in the youper app so I can't comment on that. I should start using the mindfulness app in here though.
I also got another app which stoic.
Unfortunately, this app is only on ios. You can download it from here.
This app has been a life saver for me.
Simple app really. And sometimes the things grateful for or good things that happened today do get boring.
But the quotes in it does help to frame my mind sometimes.
The breathing exercise here also helps me to relax.
This app has been so useful for me.
Ever since working from home, work and home boundaries are now nonexistent. So using this in the morning to prepare for the day, does help to create that boundary.
It does help me get into that focus mode or "Go to work" mode.
I been using this app even before the lockdown. So even before the lockdown, when I could go to the office, I used it to set my head so that I could focus for work.
But now with the lockdown, it's just a memory of an old routine but at the same time, very helpful to set that focus in for work.
The breathing exercise here has been a complete life saver.
Sometimes I get anxious and I use the breathing exercise. It usually helps alot. Atleast it makes me feel slightly calmer.
I'm sure the lockdown has made some of us anxious or even just stressed out. So make sure to look after your mental health as well. I used these apps to cope. Hopefully, these apps might be helpful to you as well.
